Frequently Asked Questions

What should I expect during a new client appointment?

All initial new client appointments are 60-90 mins and completed online via zoom. The initial appointment is a consultation, an opportunity for both parties to determine if they would like to proceed forward in a working relationship. The Pivot clinician will ask questions to gain an understanding of your life, needs, goals, challenges, and health. These questions can be very personal at times. At the end of the appointment your clinician will discuss next steps and schedule a follow up appointment with you if you both elect to proceed forward.

When would I need to come for an in person appointment?

Clients who are prescribed controlled substances (ex: stimulants for ADHD) need to be seen in person prior to the first prescription being generated. The frequency of in person appointments are determined collaboratively with the client/clinician. Additionally, clinicians may also request other clients, who are not taking controlled substances, to attend an in person appointment. The majority of appointments will remain online via video, but there can be circumstances that require in person appointments. Pivot clients must be willing to attend an in person appointment if requested by the clinician or required by state/federal law.

If the clinician/client determine there is a need for an in person appointment this will be scheduled following the initial visit. Pivot has physical offices located in Eugene, Bend, and Portland, where a client could attend an in person appointment.

It is important to note that ALL clients are required to have a PCP, or medical provider, that they see every 1-2 years for in person medical exams. Pivot providers will request clients to sign a release so that they can openly collaborate with other team members, this includes primary care, medical specialists, and therapists.

Can I get prescribed medication in my first appointment?

At Pivot the clinicians do not diagnose or prescribe in the first appointment. The diagnostic interview can take 1-3 appointments, depending on the individual and their specific needs. We provide high quality holistic care, this means we will be addressing the whole person, not just a symptom or diagnosis. Because we are thorough, diagnosis can take several appointments.

I want an ADHD evaluation, what does that require?

An ADHD evaluation takes place over 2-3 appointments. First, the initial new client appointment is completed, if the clinician, and client, determine there is a need for an ADHD evaluation, the clinician will send out comprehensive forms for the individual and an observer to complete. Once those are completed an appointment to review the results and discuss in depth the criteria for ADHD takes place. If it is determined that the individual has ADHD an appointment to discuss medication, non medication, and therapy options  will follow. Clients who are diagnosed with ADHD are provided extensive education and personalized treatment plans. Pivot will also provide academic and job accommodations letters as needed.

How do I attend an online video appointment?

Pivot uses HIPAA compliant zoom platform for video appointments. Clients are sent the zoom meeting link to their email one hour prior to the appointment. If you do not see the link please check spam/junk email folders. The zoom link does not require you to download an application, chrome, safari, and other well known browsers will run zoom on your device. Your device (phone, tablet, computer) must have working audio and camera, both will need to be on and active for the entire appointment.
